That which deals with the facts, with things as they are, not with idealistic notions of what they might or should be. Practical rather than visionary or imaginative. In politics, realism is similar to realpolitik in meaning.

Fifty years later, still timely

I recently discovered two engrossing films about the media made during the 1950s. Both Ace in the Hole and A Face in the Crowd tell stories of individuals manipulating media manipulation. These parables are, perhaps, more relevant today than when they were released.
